UCA Jungle Labs portfolio WIP

WIP for my eventual employment portfolio. Lit using the Daylight Simulation system in 3Ds Max. Originally part of our uni project modelling sections of the university campus and sticking them together, my section is now being converted into an abandoned science lab facility which will be set in a jungle/forest environment surround by trees and organic atmospheric sounds :)

UV Unwrapping

Here is a building scene I modelled and textured, using tileable textures created in Photoshop. The renders below are lit using the Daylight System in Max.

Character Lighting

3-Point Lighting setup with supplied Troll model.

Sci-Fi Gun

Here are some renders of the Sci-Fi gun, modelled from the supplied plans and lit using the Daylight system.

Skills Audit - Lighting the Army Compound

Here are two renders of the army compound lit in 3Ds Max. The first is around mid day, the second is later in the afternoon to give the shadows a different angle. I used the Daylight system in Max, rendered using Mental Ray. Although there is no way to directly use the dunlight system from max in a game engine, I have also supplied a texture map of one of the buildings with the sunlight baked onto it - This would be the most direct method to aquire a very similar look to the Max's sunlight system in a game engine.

Head Tutorial Brief

Here is the head I made referenced from tutorials and skills practice. He has strange eyes. I have since fixes the eyes and generally improved the head overall. I found it quite a challenging task to get the head modeled accurately, and i believe it is more difficult to model organic shapes than hard surface geometry, especially when modelling from reference images.

Robot Brief - BeoBot

This is the Bang & Olufsen BeoBot. Too lazy to get off your couch? Or perhaps you're too busy working on the weekly art brief? Well not to worry, because the BeoBot is here to help! I based the design of my robot on the Bang & Olufsen BeoLab 5 loudspeaker design as I think it represents the design of common every day things in the distant future. I really enjoyed doing this brief as it enabled me to use some really interesting shapes to create something that has similar design elements to real world products, but at the same time has nothing to do with the product's design language it represents.
